Facial and Body Hair Changes

A laser is used to selectively target microstructures such as hair follicles to quickly reduce unsightly and unwanted hair.

Laser hair removal can:

  • Reduce embarrassing facial hair
  • Reduce body hair around bikini lines and underarms
  • Reduce body hair you feel is inhibiting your ability to feel comfortable about your appearance
  • Safely reduce hair from even suntanned skin

Good Candidates

Certain physical attributes indicate that you are ready—and have reasonable expectations—of laser hair removal:

You are a good candidate if you:

  • Have any skin type
  • Have a positive outlook but realistic goals for your appearance improvement

Consultation and Evaluation

First you will:

  • Discuss your specific goals with Dr. Swier
  • Have your physical and emotional health evaluated
  • Learn the likely outcomes and potential risks of the procedure
  • Get a course of treatment recommended by Dr. Swier
  • Ask questions and get answers to help you understand the process

Be sure to:

  • Openly share your expectations
  • Disclose your complete health history, current medications, and use of vitamins, herbal supplements, alcohol, tobacco and drugs
  • Commit to precisely follow all of Dr. Swier’s instructions

The Procedure

The area of your skin that is to be treated will be scanned with laser light. The laser beam treats many hairs at once, employing a unique computer-scanning system that automates the procedure so you’ll be sure of a rapid treatment and even result. A system for cooling your skin will be used to remove heat as it leaves the follicles to ensure a comfortable treatment. Since sensation varies for each individual, a topical anesthesia may be administered. Since hair growth can be successfully treated at only one stage—anagen—you may need three to five treatments every six weeks to optimize results.

Progress and Healing

Some redness and slight swelling may be present but it should subside within a few hours. Keep the treated area clean, use at least SPF 15 sunscreen outdoors and follow Dr. Swier’s instructions.
