Facial Changes

A yellow laser is used to precisely treat veins and other skin conditions such as rosacea and telangiectasia—and eliminate them, by causing a superficial burn.

Laser vein and redness treatment can:

  • Treat vessels, broken capillaries, spider veins, vascular
lesions and brown discoloration of the skin
  • Treat any body area including face, neck, chest and legs

Good Candidates

Certain physical attributes indicate that you are ready—and have reasonable expectations of laser vein and redness treatments:

You are a good candidate if you:

  • Are light-skinned
  • Have realistic expectations for your appearance improvement

Consulation and Evaluation

First you will:

  • Discuss your specific goals with Dr. Swier
  • Evaluate whether these goals are realistic
  • Have a physical exam
  • Learn the likely outcomes and potential risks of the procedure
  • Get a course of treatment recommended by Dr. Swier
  • Ask questions and get answers to help you understand the process

Be sure to:

  • Openly share your expectations
  • Disclose your complete health history, current medications, and use of vitamins, herbal supplements, alcohol, tobacco and drugs as they may interfere with or alter the treatment
  • Commit to precisely follow all of Dr. Swier’s instructions

The Procedure

Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses as the laser beam delivers energy to the selected area. The treatment area is protected with a “numbing cream.” You may briefly feel a warm or hot sensation as the laser pulses are absorbed by the unwanted vessels, heating and destroying them. There is some discomfort. The procedure generally takes about 15 minutes depending on the area being treated.

Progress and Healing

Any vessels and blood denatured by the laser will be reabsorbed by your body over a period of time in a natural cleansing process. Capillaries may become inflamed at first and later will become invisible. Your skin will be sensitive to ultraviolet light and you must avoid direct sun exposure. Many of the conditions treated by the laser will have been caused by sun exposure, so avoiding the sun will prolong your youthful appearance. It’s important to follow Dr. Swier’s directions after treatment and to use skin products he recommends. You will be told to avoid exercising, hot spicy foods, hot baths, saunas and hot tubs for two weeks as they may cause the treated veins to reopen.
