Body Sculpting is a procedure or a combination of procedures designed to change the shape or “sculpt” the body. These procedures are typically performed in the surgery center by Dr. Patrick Swier. Most frequently, the procedures used for Body Sculpting are a combination of liposuction in various places along with excisions of skin that is not expected to contract back.

As we age, skin loses its elasticity and when fat is removed, the skin is often left “wrinkly”. Since excess and wrinkly skin is not attractive, it usually ends up being removed or excised. That is why liposuction by itself is usually performed in younger patients of normal weight whose skin is still elastic and will stretch back. For instance, for isolated lateral thigh saddlebags or inner thigh fat which makes the thighs rub together while walking or exercising in someone who is in his or her early twenties. On the other hand, in older patients liposuction is usually combined with a skin excision as in an abdominoplasty or “tummy tuck”. In this procedure, usually performed in mothers who have suffered from a combination of skin stretch and fat deposition after childbirth, the abdominal wall muscles are tightened in the midline and the excess skin, usually everything between the belly button and the pubic area, is removed in addition to tailoring the body contour by emptying or partially emptying some fat pockets (back rolls, hip fat pockets, etc.). This sometimes complicated process, then truly turns the body into a 3D sculpture.
